Introducing our New UChicago Staff Liaison: Tanya L. Hickson

In place of recognizing an alumnus this month, we'd like to highlight our new Staff Liaison to welcome her to the DC community!

Tanya Hickson joined the Alumni Relations and Development staff at the University of Chicago in October 2017 and currently serves as staff liaison to alumni clubs on the East coast and southern states. No stranger to Washington, D.C., Tanya earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Language and Communication Media and a graduate certificate in Spanish translation from American University in 1997.

Prior to joining The University of Chicago, Tanya lived in Atlanta, Georgia for 13 years, and most recently served in member relations, emphasizing young professional volunteer leadership development and engagement at TAPPI, a technical association. Tanya also worked in higher education development at Georgia Perimeter College (renamed Perimeter College at Georgia State University), managing corporate fundraising efforts and building affinity among partners.

A multilingual professional, Tanya spent the earlier part in her career living and working in Latin America for nearly two years, serving as both a volunteer manager of staff in 2001 in Nicaragua for a faith-based medical missions initiative and as an English instructor intern in Venezuela in 1998 immediately after finishing college. Committed to volunteerism, she also served as a Spanish interpreter at Atlanta’s Latin American Association for four years. Tanya is currently a member of Junior League Chicago, a service organization which focuses on improving the potential of women and girls. Tanya spends her free time seeking additional opportunities to give back to the community.
