The DC Alumni Association will be recognizing notable, local alumni each month.

Seema Sueko, MA'95, received her degree in International Relations from University of Chicago in 1995, and promptly put that degree to work in the theater. Currently, she serves as deputy artistic director of Arena Stage, where she is directing Arthur Miller’s The Price. She previously served as associate artistic director at The Pasadena Playhouse and executive artistic director of Mo'olelo Performing Arts Company in San Diego. Seema’s R&D work includes pioneering the Consensus Organizing for Theater methodology, creating the Green Theater Choices Toolkit (which has been used by theaters and universities on five continents), publishing research on the neuroscience of theater, and R&D in the usage of augmented and virtual reality in theater. Her directing and acting credits include Arena Stage, The Pasadena Playhouse, People’s Light, The Old Globe, San Diego Repertory, Yale Repertory, 5th Avenue Theatre, Native Voices and Mo`olelo, among others. As a playwright, she received commissions from Mixed Blood Theatre and Center Stage. Her work has been recognized by the California State Assembly, NAACP San Diego, San Diego Theater Critics Circle, Chicago Jeff Awards and American Theatre magazine. Seema serves on the Diversity Committee of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. She was excited to connect with UChicago alumni this past spring at Arena Stage and looks forward to meeting more fellow alums.

On Friday, November 3rd, the DC Alumni Club will be headed to see Seema's production of The Price at Arena Stage. After the peformance, Seema will host a director's talk for UChicago students and alumni. Find more details about this exciting event on our event page.
