Notable Alumnus Profile: Alfredo Gomez, MPP'91

Alfredo Gomez, MPP’91, is a Senior Executive at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) and serves as a Director in the Natural Resources and Environment team. He manages the team’s work in environmental protection issues. His portfolio includes performance and evaluation studies in cleanup of hazardous substances, drinking and clean water issues, ecosystem restoration, pesticides, toxic chemicals, climate change, and EPA-wide management issues. Alfredo has led numerous reports addressing a wide range of environmental, natural resource, agency management, and food safety issues. He has testified at numerous House and Senate hearings on a variety of environmental protection issues.
Since graduating from the University of Chicago Harris Public Policy School, Alfredo has been actively involved with Harris and the University. He currently serves as a board member on the Harris Alumni Council, and chairs the Alumni Careers and Networks committee. He was the co-chair of the Harris 25th Class Reunion Committee and raised over $17,000 for the student internship fund. He’s a past recipient of the Harris Minorities in Public Policy Studies Alumnus of the Year Award. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Rice University and a master’s degree in Public Policy Studies from the University of Chicago Harris.
